This is the updated schedule for Power Shift Canada 2009. Please read carefully in order to make sure you know where to go and for what time. All times are Eastern Standard Time (EST).
Friday, October 23, 2009
9:00AM-4:00 PM: This is when most participants will be arriving in Ottawa. This is a good time to check in to your accommodation and drop off your luggage in order to be more mobile when making your way to our Friday Night Power Shift Canada 2009 launch at the Nepean Sportsplex.
5:00PM-8:00PM Registration and Fill the Hill Flash Mob Rehearsal
Participants should be arriving during these times in order to register. The earlier you show up the more time you will have to participate in the surrounding events. We recommend that you arrive no later then 7:00PM in order to make sure you register and have enough time to make the opening ceremony starting at 8:00PM.
If you want to participate the the Fill the Hill Flash Mob Rehearsal, please arrive by 5:30PM. This will be an introductory group rehearsal for participants who will be performing in the flash mob on Saturday. Dance leaders will review the steps and the entire group will run through the routine. The dance rehearsal will be near Minto Field and the baseball diamonds within the Nepean Sportsplex property.

Participants arriving late on Friday or on Saturday morning can check in at the registration table located in the Jock-Turcot University Centre to pick up information and orient themselves at the conference.
8:00-8:45AM Orientation to Power Shift Canada
This is an optional session offered to participants who may want more information on what is happening at Power Shift and how they can maximize their experience during the conference.
9:00-10:30AM Session 1: Anti-Oppression Concurrent Sessions

During this time, all participants who will be a part of the flash mob at Fill the Hill will gather outside to do a group run-through prior to the event. Afterwards, participants can head towards Parliament Hill for 350.org’s event.
1:30-3:00PM Fill the Hill, Parliament Hill
Power Shift Canada will join thousands of other Canadians on Parliament Hill to take part in 350.org’s International Day of Climate Action. Power Shift will be performing a flash dance followed by a mass text/email/call/twitter for climate action. There will be more details of the Power Shift Canada flash dance choreography available soon, but until it’s available we suggest you watch and get inspired by Power Shift Australia’s flash dance at the Sydney Opera House. We also suggest you take the time to learn how fantastic Fill the Hill will be.

3:30-5:00PM Canadian Youth Delegation Campaign Introduction/Regional Break-Out Sessions, University of Ottawa
Carrying on from the energy and message of Fill the Hill, the Canadian Youth Delegation to Copenhagen will be introducing their domestic and new media campaigns leading up to December. The Canadian Youth Delegation Home Team program will also be launched and participants will learn how they can become part of this exciting program. There will be an opportunity for participants to meet others from their province or territory, discuss common issues and strategize for stronger regional action post-Power Shift.

A number of concerts, parties and events will be offered to PSC participants at different venues on campus and in the city. Participants can choose to attend any of the events but there is limited capacity at each venue so it is advised that they arrive early for their preference.

9:00-10:00AM Open Space Session, Various Locations
Open space workshops are a democratic framework that enables individuals to create their own program or discussion. Participants can sign up to offer their own event or forum or join one being offered.
10:00-12:00PM The World Café
The World Café is a conversational process where discussions link and build on each other as people move between groups. The aim of the World Café format is to evoke and make visible the collective intelligence of a group and allow participants to process their experiences from the weekend.
12:00-6:00PM Action Planning- Full Day Training hosted by Greenpeace
This is a hands-on workshop where participants will actually plan and simulate an action from start to finish. Groups will cover affinity group work, roles and responsibilities, legal and action planning and role plays.
12:00-3:00PM Green Job Symposium
The Green Jobs Symposium will be a vibrant space where participants will build their understanding of the green jobs movement in Canada and how a just transition to a green economy is vital for fighting climate change. The symposium will include discussion-based forums, a resources hub, a multimedia area and a green jobs zone. There will also be a session of green jobs related workshops running from 1:30-3:00PM.

7:00-8:00PM Lobby Day Training
This is a session aimed to prepare delegates to meet with and discuss climate change issues with their government leaders. During the course of the session, participants can ask questions and acquire knowledge and tools to help them effectively lobby their government representatives on Monday.
8:15-9:30PM Caucus and Affinity Groups
Caucuses are safe environments for people of shared social experiences to “address the oppression of marginalized groups within society and social movements”. Membership in a caucus is self-defined. The caucuses will allow participants to share experiences, offer support to each other and to strategize to make the environmental movement more inclusive of everyone. Information in a caucus is private within a group unless a decision is made by consensus to share with the larger group.
9:30-11:30PM Film Screenings
This is a chance for participants to sit back, relax and enjoy some amazing documentary films. Topics range from food security to youth activism to Captain Planet.
9:30-12:00AM Volunteer Appreciation Party, 1848 (University of Ottawa)
Power Shift Canada could not be made possible without the tireless efforts of all our volunteers. This will be an all-ages party to celebrate Power Shift Canada and to thank everyone for their dedication. Bring your party hats. (Admittance by invitation only)

This will be a short briefing to give an overview of the day.
9:00-10:00AM Action on Parliament Hill
10:00-10:30AM National Press Conference, Charles Lynch Room
Power Shift Canada will hold a press conference where we will request that all the federal parties support our asks.
11:00AM-Onwards Scheduled visits with MPs and Senators
Youth of all backgrounds will meet with MPs and Senators and share a fresh, positive, and inspiring vision of the future, one focused on our potential to overcome the challenges of the 21st century, build a clean energy economy, create millions of green jobs, increase global equity, and revitalize our economy.
