Rail transit is one of the safest, most comfortable and most environmentally-friendly ways to travel.

VIA Rail, Canada’s national rail transit provider, is providing special discounted fare rates to all Power Shift participants travelling to and from Ottawa between October 19 and October 27!

There are two special discounted rates available to all Power Shift Canada ’09 participants.

1. The Sierra Youth Coalition discount rate

Did you know that ALL SYC members receive a 40% discount on ALL economy class train tickets in Canada? With just a $20 membership, you can be riding the rails for cheap!

Here’s how to do it:

• Step 1: Become a member here, renew your membership, or verify your membership status with the national office.
• Step two: Send an email to info@syc-cjs.org requesting an official emailed status of membership (the email you’ll receive is good for one month and soon we will send out new membership cards, which will do the trick from that day forward).
• Step three: Call VIA (1-888-VIA-RAIL) and book your train ticket. Follow the instructions in your temporary email membership.
• Step four: Have your proof of membership and photo ID on you when you pick up your ticket.

Steps one and two are only for the first time. After that, steps three and four will do the trick. Forget flying. Trains are the more sustainable and fun way to travel.

2. The exclusive Power Shift Canada ’09 discount rate

Those who select the Power Shift Canada ’09 exclusive discount rate will receive 10% off the best available fare in Economy Class/Business or Sleeper Class. One complimentary stopover is allowed at no additional charge. This fare applies to a maximum of two passengers only*. The Power Shift Canada ’09 discount rate if available from October 19 to October 27 and covers various cities throughout the VIA Rail system in Canada.

A reliable and cheap method to get between cities in Canada. If you book early, and book with a companion fare, you save even more. Also look into an International student Identity Card, which allows you to access more discounts.
